"Cries from the Psalms" Pt. 2 (A Poem Featuring Other Bible Books + Psalms)

To the Author of Life, the Author of the only True Love -- the Uncaused Cause of All Stories:

Set me as a seal upon your heart, Lord, as a seal upon your arm,

For love is as strong as death, jealousy as cruel as the grave,

A most vehement flame -- the colorless white of the hottest grief, when all emotion and thought suspends in mid-air and freezes,

To the Breaker of Time, Author of the only True Clock -- the Womb of All Noon Bell Chimes,

Set me ever before Your Face; my hope-bled, frayed pulse, it dies, it grows faint with Your Many Tolling Tests, it withers before Your Latter Rains can rescue, so let it die then, in service to keeping Your time,

For love is as patient as death, heartsickness as restless as the blue depths that swallow glaciers and continents -- will I sleep there hereafter? (Will You ignore my pleas forever? Abba! Abba! Why have You forsaken me?)

To the Earth-Builder, the World-Maker, the One Who Breathes Upon the Dust in His Hands and Births Civilizations,

Set Your Name as a seal on my heart,

When the winter is past,

The rain is over and gone,

When the flowers appear on the earth,

And the smell of jasmine fills the valleys and lingers in the morning mist,

When the time of singing has come, Lord, when deep calls to deep,

When all Your waves and breakers have swept over me, when they have taken my life and all its cares away forever, as they do even now,

Hear my cry, Lord,

And set me as a seal upon your heart -- a seal upon your arm.
