Welcome to Shadowlands and Songs of Light, the online home of author Kevin Ott. The term “stabs of Joy” comes from the autobiography of C. S. Lewis when he describes unexpected moments of deep longing (that are both euphoric and bittersweet) as “stabs of Joy.” As this devotional puts it: “This idea of Joy is not a satisfied desire but an unsatisfied desire ─ a deep longing for God, a hungry pursuit of God’s heart that never ends and is more satisfying than any earthly happiness.”

"Shadowlands and Songs of Light: An Epic Journey into Joy and Healing," Ott's debut book, was released on Nov. 1, 2016 (BroadStreet Publishing) and is now available wherever books are sold. To learn more about the book, click here.

My life's mission statement: "To pursue a radical hunger for God and to inspire others to be radically hungry for God in a way that transforms their lives for the better. If there was one modern book that I could call my manifesto for life, it would be A.W. Tozer's 'The Pursuit of God.'"

Besides writing non-fiction and fiction books, I have had a podcast (currently on hiatus). Here are my interviews with actor David Oyelowo, singer Dolly Parton, Mark Henn, Disney animator of "Moana," and Todd Karmicki, the screenwriter of the Tom Hanks film "Sully":
